Titled "Share," this 1917 color lithograph was made for a Jewish relief campaign during the First World War, a year after the Joint Distribution Committee was founded to aid Jewish communities in war-torn Europe. The poster bears the name Burke Johnstone Studios and was printed by Sackett & Wilhelms, a lithographic firm in Brooklyn. Appeals like this asked American donors to share in the cost of feeding and sheltering people displaced by fighting. Its large size, 103 by 76 centimeters, suggests it was meant for public walls, and its library subject headings link it to the economics of wartime charity.
