Zeichnet die Neunte!" ("Subscribe to the Ninth!") calls on readers to buy into the Ninth War Loan, one of the German government bond drives that helped pay for the country's effort in World War I. The slogan's second half, "Es geht um Alles was wir lieben" ("It is about everything we love"), presents the purchase as a way of protecting home and family. The mother and child shown in the design reflect how such appeals leaned on domestic imagery. Issued in 1918, the poster dates from the last months of the war, when Germany's finances and public morale were under growing strain.
