Its headline promises a decisive stretch: "Four weeks of the ninth war loan, four fateful weeks for the Fatherland!" The closing line, "Germany to the truth, the enemy to the lesson," casts buying government bonds as both a patriotic duty and a rebuke to Germany's enemies. Issued in 1917, the poster belongs to a series of German war loan campaigns that asked ordinary citizens to help finance the war through bond purchases. Signed by the artist Bernhard, this color lithograph shows how wartime economic mobilization was presented to the public as a test of national endurance.
