The title on this glass negative, "Spechr Band," comes from unverified notes on the negative or its caption card, so the spelling may not match the name of the group it shows. The record gives no date, but it places the negative in the Bain News Service collection, the New York agency founded by George Grantham Bain that sold news pictures to newspapers in the early 1900s. Bain's glass plates cover a wide range of subjects, from public events and well-known figures to everyday street scenes, and the 5 by 7 inch size was common for press work of that period. Because the title is uncertain, the band's identity remains an open question worth checking against related Bain captions.
