The title names two people, Telva and Valeri, but the record notes that the name comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service, so their identities and roles remain uncertain. Bain's agency, based in New York, sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, covering stage performers, public figures, and everyday events. Its images were made on glass plate negatives like this one, which captured fine detail that is often lost in later reproductions. Because the sitters are not confirmed, the picture is best read as a record of how the agency documented its subjects during that period.
