Richard Felton Outcault, the cartoonist known for the Yellow Kid and later Buster Brown, drew this 1903 color poster, which is tied to Yale University and to a man named Bristow Adams. The print was copyrighted by the Potomac Press of Washington, D.C. In the first decade of the 1900s, college track and field drew large crowds and steady newspaper coverage, and posters like this one carried that interest into shops and public spaces. The piece is a useful example of how a well-known comic illustrator turned his skills to commercial graphics.
