A bold letter V fills the center of this 1917 lithograph, a victory sign that sets it apart from the many war posters of its day that urged Americans to buy bonds. The Czechoslovak Recruiting Office in New York issued it during the years when the independence movement was seeking support among Czechoslovak communities abroad and among the Allies. Wentworth Institute in Boston designed and printed it as one of a numbered series of posters. Its subject headings tie it to the economic side of the war, when the United States financed its part in the conflict through war bond drives.
