Two glass negatives, joined side by side, record the picnic grounds at Lemont, a village southwest of Chicago, and the record lists a pedestrian bridge among the subjects, so the footbridge is worth looking for alongside the grove and open lawns. The Detroit Publishing Company made the view sometime between about 1900 and 1905, when the firm was producing many travel and scenic views of American towns and landscapes. Outings to parks on the edge of growing cities were a popular pastime then, and the wide panoramic format shows how such grounds were arranged for visitors.
