The doorway belongs to a building in Dwight, Illinois, marked with the lettering "Leslie E. Keeley Co. offices," which ties it to the Keeley Institute. Dr. Leslie E. Keeley founded the institute in Dwight in 1879 to treat alcoholism and drug addiction with a proprietary injection regimen, and the company's treatment centers spread to many cities over the following decades. This glass-plate negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company between about 1900 and 1905, when the firm was documenting towns and businesses across the country for commercial sale.
