Bridal Veil Falls drops roughly 620 feet beside the road into Yosemite Valley, and in 1915 it was already one of the valley's most photographed sights. The year falls within the early decades of the national park, which was established in 1890 and had only recently begun to draw large numbers of visitors by automobile and stagecoach. Photographers of the period often framed the falls against the granite walls of El Capitan and the surrounding cliffs to show how the valley's scale dwarfed its visitors. Wind often pushes the spray sideways across the trail, a feature worth noticing when comparing the image with later views.
