Fort Myer, on the heights above the Potomac in what is now Arlington County, Virginia, was home to Army units throughout this period, and this view records one of the field camps set up there before 1915. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that photographed Washington and its surroundings in the early 1900s, made the negative, though the title comes from its own unverified records. Fort Myer later became known for the Army's early aviation trials in 1908. The glass plate shows streaks and surface wear from the deterioration of its original coating.
