Evening shadows pairs a bridge with a church in one quiet scene, a combination that drew many early twentieth-century painters to the same kind of soft, late-day light. This color halftone reproduces a painting by Edwin Lamasure, and its notice credits Brown & Bigelow of St. Paul, Minnesota, a firm known for calendar and card art. Halftone printing let publishers turn paintings into affordable color images for ordinary homes, and this 1910 example shows how that process carried a painter's atmosphere into everyday life. The print was also registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.
