Trinity Church looks small and low beneath the office towers in this c1905 view, with the Gillender Building standing as the third tower from the left. The Gothic Revival church, completed in 1846 at the head of Wall Street, kept its churchyard cemetery, and by 1905 the steel-frame buildings of the financial district had begun to crowd its spire from every side. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its panoramic views of American cities, copyrighted the scene that year, and this image is a copy of two reversed panoramic prints made from a glass negative.
