Tyler-Davidson Fountain, the bronze centerpiece of Fountain Square, rises above the downtown plaza in this view from about 1906. The fountain was cast in Munich and unveiled in 1871, and its figure of the Genius of Water crowns a tiered basin ringed with sculpted figures. The Detroit Publishing Company made many commercial views of American cities in this period, and this one shows the square as a public gathering place at the heart of Cincinnati. The large glass negative preserves fine detail in the sculpture and the buildings around it.
