Ciudad Juárez, the Mexican city across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, is the place named in this view of firing on the town. The title was recorded by the Bain News Service on the negative or its caption card but is unverified, so the date and the combatants cannot be confirmed from the record. Juárez was a frequent battleground during the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s, and the border cities drew American photographers eager for images of the fighting. The Bain agency, a New York business that supplied pictures to newspapers, produced many such scenes, and its glass negatives remain an important record of that period.
