The sitters in this small sixth-plate daguerreotype are unidentified, though the record suggests they may be Linus and Mary Alice Barbour, whose dates given in the record run from 1849 to 1875 and from 1844 to 1904. The plate sits in the Lucian Barbour Papers at the Library of Congress, and only its velvet pad survives, without the original case. Daguerreotypes of the 1850s were one-of-a-kind mirror-like images on silvered copper, so each one must be tilted in the light before the picture appears clearly.
