The eldest son of Theodore Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt Jr. is identified here by his military rank, a reminder of his service as an Army officer during the First World War. The glass negative is undated, and its title comes from caption information that the Bain News Service recorded, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Bain was a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of public figures in the early twentieth century, and its negatives often show people in the news at the moment of their public prominence. Viewers interested in the Roosevelt family will find it a useful glimpse of how the agency documented the family.
