Theodore Roosevelt Jr., the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, is the man shown leaving a place the caption abbreviates as "ILL.," most likely Illinois, though the record flags its title as unverified. The image is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news agency that supplied photographs to newspapers in the early decades of the 1900s. Roosevelt Jr. was a prominent public figure through those years, serving in World War I and later as governor of Puerto Rico and governor-general of the Philippines. No date is recorded, so the occasion of this moment remains uncertain.
