Addressed directly to a "lad" and urging him to "Join to-day," this poster is number 109 in the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee's numbered series. The committee was formed in 1915 to encourage voluntary enlistment as Britain's army grew far beyond its prewar size, and its posters were printed in large runs and displayed across towns. The blunt, personal wording, which frames enlistment as a young man's duty, was typical of the period's appeals. David Allen & Sons of Harrow, a leading commercial printer of such posters, produced this color print.
