Step into your place" is a 1915 recruiting poster issued in London by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, a body formed that year to encourage voluntary enlistment as Britain's army grew. Printed in color by David Allen & Sons of Harrow, it makes a direct appeal to duty, with its title suggesting that every man had a gap in the ranks waiting for him. The marching soldiers it shows reflect how central the column had become to the British army's image during the war. Posters like this were pasted on hoardings and public walls across the country.
