Few recruiting posters from 1915 rely on words alone, and this one ties its appeal to a single event: the sinking of the Lusitania. A German U-boat torpedoed the passenger liner off the Irish coast on 7 May 1915, and the loss of nearly 1,200 lives, many of them civilians, gave British recruiters a powerful argument that the nation should answer the attack by enlisting. Printed by David Allen & Sons in Harrow for the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, it shows how wartime propaganda turned a tragedy into a call to arms.
