This poster relies entirely on words, with no illustration, to make its case: buying the new war loan is how the country finances the fight. Issued by the Parliamentary War Savings Committee in 1915, it reflects Britain's effort to pay for the First World War by borrowing from ordinary citizens as well as from banks and institutions. Campaigns like this one asked people of modest means to lend small sums to the state, turning private savings into public money for the war effort. David Allen & Sons, a Harrow firm that printed many government and advertising posters of the period, produced the lithograph.
