A ball game is underway on the grass in front of the Mammoth Hotel at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, in a view dated around 1917. The hotel, completed in 1911 and designed by park architect Robert Reamer, was one of the park's main lodgings and stood near the terraced limestone springs that draw many visitors. Studio photographs like this one were popular souvenirs of the park, and the Haynes family, whose St. Paul firm holds the copyright noted here, was among the best-known photographers of Yellowstone in this period.
