This view looks through the lounge of the Grand Canyon Hotel in Yellowstone National Park toward the front office, a setting for guests waiting to check in or settle in after a day at the canyon and falls. The photograph was made around 1922 by J.E. Haynes of St. Paul, Minnesota, whose studio documented the park's hotels and scenery for decades and supplied views for railroad and tourism promotion. Park hotels of this period were built to host visitors who arrived by rail and, increasingly, by automobile, and their public rooms often reflected the rustic style the park favored. The record's details are based on an old caption card, so the dating should be treated as approximate.
