E.O. Leatherwood is the name given to this glass negative, though the record notes that the title comes from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve, so the identity of the sitter or subject is not confirmed. The plate dates to about 1921, the period when the National Photo Company was producing large numbers of pictures for commercial and promotional use, many of them of places and people in Utah and elsewhere in the West. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Visible streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings, which is worth keeping in mind when viewing the image.
