A yearbook changes hands in front of the last professional portrait taken of Mary McLeod Bethune, founder of Bethune-Cookman College, in this April 1967 scene. Senior Joyce Hanks presents the book to labor leader A. Philip Randolph, a Crescent City, Florida, native, while sophomore Mary Finley looks on. Bethune founded the school in Daytona Beach in 1904 and died in 1955, so the portrait served as a tribute to her work more than a decade after her death. Martin Gross made the photograph.
