This plate, numbered IV in a series, shows infantry uniforms of the Continental Army during 1779 to 1783, the final years of the Revolutionary War. The artist, H.A. Ogden, drew the figures, and the New York firm G.H. Buek & Co. printed them as a color lithograph around 1897. The print carries a copyright notice in the name of Brig. Gen. S.B. Holabird, the Army's Quartermaster General, which links it to the Army's own interest in accurate records of historic uniforms. Its date places it in the late 1890s, when Revolutionary War subjects were popular and a century after the conflict.
