Cortina d'Ampezzo, a resort town in the Dolomites, is the place this poster promotes, and it is credited to the artist Lenhart. ENIT, Italy's national tourist board, issued the poster in the 1940s, a decade that spans the Second World War and the years of recovery that followed. Skiing is its subject, reflecting the Dolomites' long appeal to winter sports enthusiasts and Cortina's later role as host of the 1956 Winter Olympics. The poster shows how Italy presented its mountains to visitors in the mid-twentieth century.
