The poster bills the film as "a spectacular photo-drama," and its color art centers on the eruption that buried Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE. Kleine, a New York distributor, brought European features to American audiences in the early 1910s, and multi-reel historical spectacles like this one were a major draw at the time. The poster was printed by the H.C. Miner Litho. Co. of New York, a firm that produced many theatrical and film posters of the period. Its bold color and dramatic disaster scene show how studios marketed silent films through spectacle.
