*Pershing's Crusaders* was billed as the first official American war picture, assembled from footage shot by U.S. Signal Corps and Navy photographers during the country's entry into the First World War. This lithograph, printed by the H.C. Miner Litho. Co. of New York, carries the auspices of the government's Committee on Public Information, the wartime agency headed by George Creel. The title honors General John J. Pershing, who commanded the American Expeditionary Forces in France, and the poster shows how Washington used motion pictures, alongside other posters and newspapers, to build public support for the war.
