This glass negative records the Institution for the Blind in Columbus, Ohio, one of the few views on this board devoted to a school for blind students. The institution was founded in 1837 and grew into one of the state's leading schools for blind pupils, teaching reading, music and trades to students who had few other options. The picture was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large-format views of American cities and institutions, many of them sold as souvenirs and promotional prints, so it reflects how the company presented public places. The record's subject list names Cincinnati rather than Columbus, a discrepancy worth checking against the original catalog entry.
