Hotel Star stood on a Columbus, Ohio, street in the view recorded here, which the catalog dates to between 1900 and 1910. The picture is an 8 by 10 inch glass negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that photographed American towns and streetscapes for the travel market and sold the results as views and postcards. Large plates like this one recorded fine architectural and street detail, so the hotel's facade and the surrounding street are worth a close look. The negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
