Few state capitols from this period still stand as the original building, and the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus is one of them. Built between 1839 and 1861 in the Greek Revival style, it sits downtown on a limestone base, and this glass-plate negative records it as it looked in the years between 1900 and 1910. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made many views of American towns, landmarks and scenery for sale to travelers and collectors, produced the image. Because it was made on a large 8-by-10-inch glass plate, it holds fine detail in the building's columns and stonework.
