Two girls at play are the focus of this 8 by 10 inch glass negative of Franklin Park in Columbus, Ohio, set apart from the park's landscape views by its human subject. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made large-format views of American towns and landscapes for sale as souvenirs and postcards, produced it sometime between 1900 and 1915. Urban parks were then becoming important public spaces for families and children, and the photograph records a simple leisure moment in that setting. The negative's path to the Library of Congress ran through a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
