The Arlington Hotel stood in downtown Washington, a short walk from the White House and Lafayette Square, and it was one of the city's well-known places to stay in the years just after the First World War. The National Photo Company, which made large numbers of views of the capital for postcards and for visitors in the early twentieth century, produced this glass negative. Streaks and other blemishes from the natural decay of the original coating are visible, and they are worth keeping in mind when judging fine detail in the image.
