Fought on August 29 and 30, 1862, near the same creek and railroad line where Union troops had been beaten the year before, this second battle at Bull Run ended in another retreat toward Washington. New York publisher Currier & Ives, which sold affordable hand-colored lithographs of current events, likely issued this sheet soon after the fighting, while the defeat was still fresh. The dated title shows how quickly the firm answered public appetite for news from Virginia.
