Three figures from different corners of American culture stand together in this half-length group portrait: novelist and playwright Thornton Wilder, critic Edmund Wilson, and composer Aaron Copland. Wilder wrote *Our Town* and *The Skin of Our Teeth*, Wilson was among the most influential literary critics of his generation, and Copland composed works such as *Appalachian Spring* and *Rodeo*. The photograph is dated only to the 1960s, when all three were well-established names, so it offers a useful glimpse of the mid-century circles in which writers, critics, and composers often crossed paths.
