*Canada's Egg Opportunity* is a color lithograph poster that presents wartime food production as a chance for ordinary Canadians rather than a burden. Its sponsor, the Canada Food Board, was the federal body that oversaw food supply during the First World War, and posters like this one encouraged farmers and households to raise more poultry and eggs to stretch supplies for troops and Allied civilians overseas. The record dates it to 1914, the war's first year, yet the Food Board was not formed until 1917, so the date and sponsor are worth reading together. The poster's focus on chickens ties everyday farm labor to the larger war effort.
