Canada's beef opportunity" presents wartime livestock production as a chance for Canadian farmers, not only a patriotic duty, and names the Canada Food Board as its sponsor. The Board was the federal agency created in 1917 to manage food supplies for the home front and the Allied countries, which depended heavily on imported meat during the war. Color lithograph posters like this one used direct, upbeat messages to encourage farmers to expand their herds. Its framing of beef as an economic opportunity shows how wartime appeals tied national need to private profit.
