Few home-front posters tie a fundraising appeal so directly to the theater world as this 1918 color lithograph, issued for the Stage Women's War Relief. James Montgomery Flagg, the illustrator best known for his Uncle Sam recruiting poster, designed it, and the American Lithographic Company in New York printed it. The organization enlisted actresses in wartime fundraising, bond sales and relief work, and posters like this one helped draw audiences and donors from the stage. Its large sheet, about 77 by 56 centimeters, was the kind used to fill billboards and shop windows during the Liberty Loan drives.
