Flagg's poster pairs Britannia and Uncle Sam side by side, announcing a "Britain's Day" on December 7, 1918, and a mass meeting printed at the bottom. The date falls about four weeks after the Armistice, when the two nations were shifting from wartime cooperation toward the postwar settlement. Flagg was one of the most recognizable illustrators of the period, and his Uncle Sam figure had already become familiar through his 1917 recruiting poster. Here the familiar figure appears as a partner rather than a recruiter, and the design presents the alliance as a friendship meant to be celebrated.
