St. James Park in Jacksonville, Florida, is the subject of this view, and its record notes a memorial or monument among the features it shows. The Detroit Publishing Company, based in Michigan, sent photographers across the country around the turn of the twentieth century to document towns, parks, and landmarks for postcards and travel publications. This picture survives as an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a large-format size that captured fine detail, and it came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
