Printed in Cincinnati in 1899, this color poster promotes the New York Sunday Tribune, and its railroad theme points to how city papers reached readers beyond New York. By the late 1890s, trains carried Sunday editions to towns across the region, so a paper's circulation depended on the rail network as much as on its newsroom. Cincinnati was a major center of American color lithography at the time, and the Russell-Morgan firm named in the title was among the shops producing bold advertising posters like this one. The piece shows how commercial printing and the expanding railroads together shaped the mass press of the period.
