Soprano Félia Litvinne, whose name appears here without its accent, was a leading interpreter of Wagner's heroines, singing Isolde and Brünnhilde in Paris and elsewhere in Europe. This glass negative was made by the Paris studio of Boyer, which photographed many performers of the period, and it reached the Library of Congress through the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied pictures like this to newspapers. The record gives no date, but the portrait belongs to the wide circulation of theatrical studio images in the years before the First World War.
