Among the Bain News Service glass negatives, this portrait is identified by name as Francis B. Harrison, though the title comes from caption data the agency recorded and has not been independently verified. Harrison was a New York Democrat who later served in the U.S. House of Representatives and, from 1913 to 1921, as Governor-General of the Philippines. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied newspapers and magazines with news photographs in the early 1900s, and its negatives on glass capture the look and working methods of that period.
