Sir Francis Bridgeman, a British naval officer, appears in this May 11, 1925 glass negative taken at the Navy Department in Washington, alongside Secretary of the Navy Curtis D. Wilbur and others. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, visitors and public events during the 1920s and 1930s, made the image, and its original title notes that the caption came from data written on the negative or its sleeve. The Library of Congress received the plate as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. The glass shows streaks and other blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating.
