Sec. Wilbur and J.L. Latimer are the two men named in this 1924 glass negative, which the National Photo Company dated to August 7 of that year. Curray Wilbur, Secretary of the Navy under President Calvin Coolidge, is the figure best known from the Washington scene of that period, and Latimer's role is less documented in the record. The negative is one of many made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, events and street life in the capital in the 1920s and 1930s. Its glass plates often show streaks and surface wear from age, so the image may look softer than a print from the same day would have.
