The record links this glass negative to the 1913 inauguration, when Woodrow Wilson took the oath as the 28th president on March 4. Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines, made the negative, and the title comes from its caption cards, which the collection notes have not been independently verified. The day before the swearing-in, a large women's suffrage parade marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, a sign of how much public attention surrounded the change of administration. Glass plates like this one were the working standard for press photography of the period.
