Few posters from the Spanish Civil War make the case for poultry, but this Barcelona lithograph does, presenting the breeding of chickens as a revolutionary task under the slogan "Intensificar la reproducción es hacer obra revolucionaria." Printed by the Delegación de Propaganda y Prensa sometime between 1936 and 1939, it reflects the Republican side's effort to tie everyday food production to the war effort. Barcelona faced serious food shortages during the conflict, and posters like this one urged civilians and workers to increase domestic output. The combination of bold color and a plain, farmyard image shows how propaganda could turn something as ordinary as a hen house into a matter of political duty.
