This ink drawing shows the Loew's theater, also known as the High Street theater, on West Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio, set directly across from the RKO Palace theater. The drawing dates to 1939 and belongs to the Library of Congress's Architecture, Design and Engineering drawings, a collection that records buildings as technical plans rather than as photographs. In the late 1930s, Broad Street was one of the city's main entertainment corridors, and the pairing of two rival movie houses on facing sides of the street reflected the era's competition for audiences. Its precise linework makes it useful for studying how theaters of that period were laid out and drawn.
